"Influence of Sociodemographic Factors on Oral Health Knowledge of Pregnant Women, El Salvador, 2024"

Abstract

Introduction: This research addressed the crucial importance of oral health during pregnancy. It examined sociodemographic factors such as age, education, residential area, and economic income that influence pregnant women’s knowledge about oral health. Objective: To evaluate how sociodemographic factors influence knowledge about oral health among pregnant women attending health units in El Salvador, 2024.

Methodology: This study employed a quantitative, correlational approach with an observational and cross-sectional design. The instrument used was a questionnaire consisting of 26 closed-ended questions, employing a survey technique. A non-probabilistic convenience sampling method was applied, selecting 300 pregnant women who attended Health Units of the Ministry of Health, while respecting all ethical considerations. Results: Women aged 21 to 35 years demonstrated better knowledge of oral health compared to younger and older pregnant women. Urban women and those with higher education levels exhibited a higher level of knowledge about oral health. Additionally, higher income was associated with greater knowledge.
