Abstract

Chagas disease, emerged in Brazil in 1909, as a systemic parasitic disease caused by the protozoan Trypanosoma cruzi. The main form of transmission is vector. The disease is determined by three phases: acute, indeterminate and chronic. It is estimated that there are currently between 6 to 8 million people infected by Trypanosoma cruzi and it is known by the WHO as a neglected tropical disease in Latin America. This disease in El Salvador has been a public health problem, preferably in rural areas; however, the vector has become resilient and is present in suburban and urban areas. In our country, Triatoma dimidiata is considered the only vector that transmits this disease.

The case concerns a 7-year-old boy, resident in a suburban area of the municipality of San Salvador, in the department of San Salvador, El Salvador, who consulted in March 2021 with a private doctor and in the public health system. . , the latter being diagnosed as an acute case of Chagas disease, Strout concentrate was used as a laboratory diagnostic test. Other diagnoses were demonstrated to the patient prior to the definitive diagnosis. Within the clinical picture, he presented fever, general malaise, hyporexia, left eyelid edema and alterations in the electrocardiogram (EKG). The patient was treated with nifurtimox and progressed favorably. In the epidemiological and vector control, the vector Triatoma dimidiata was found in the patient's home
