Children's Rights in Primary School in El Salvador. Study carried out in public schools from first to sixth grades of basic education

Abstract

This article is an exploratory descriptive study with qualitative analysis, whose purpose is to identify the dynamics and evolution of the application of children's rights in the public education system of El Salvador, from the perspective of the main adores. To carry out the research, curricular contents and public policy documents were reviewed, including the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC); At the same time, 5 schools in different geographical areas of urban and rural areas, where teachers, principals, parents were interviewed; Officials responsible for public policies for the protection of children and adolescents and those responsible for educational policies were consulted. It was found that there is a broad norm that supports the promotion and application of children's rights in El Salvador. governmental and non-governmental organizations that work with child care programs, sufficient educational material designed for this purpose and an incipient initiative to join efforts of all the entities involved and seek to work together to achieve common objectives. There is a good level of knowledge of rights; But there is still a deficiency in the implementation of the according to them.
