INCORPORATION OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES INTO THE LABOUR MARKET IN THE CITY OF SAN MIGUEL

The approach of the labor situation of the sector identified as Persons with Disabilities (PWD’s)
allows to recognize that it has been historically relegated in the country to subsist, depending economically of relatives, public charity or as part of the informal sector of the economy, obtaining
little remuneration For his job.
Those who have been able to obtain a job have been through the intermediary of the Ministry of
Labor, NGOs that work with the sector or by mandate of the “Law of Equalization of Opportunities” in force since 2000, which includes in its article 24, to integrate One disabled person for
every 25 employees who work. (Legislative Assembly of the Republic of El Salvador, 2012)
Based on this reality, it was established as a research purpose to carry out a mapping of Persons
with Disabilities (PWD’s) to manage strategies for incorporation into the labor market in the city
of San Miguel. They identified their sociodemographic conditions, access possibilities to formal
employment, occupational situation of the sector in relation to the labor market requirements
and analyzed the legislation in order to verify compliance with regulations.
Considering that 48,763 Persons with Disabilities residing in the department and 27,178 in the
city of San Miguel, information was collected that allowed the personal and work conditions of
the sector to be described as an input for decision-makers in favor of them. (National Registry of
Natural Persons of El Salvador, 2017).
The information was provided by the PWD’s, companies that provide employment and institutions that meet the needs of the sector.
