Prevalence of anxiety and related academic factors in students of a Faculty of Medicine of El Salvador year 2021

Abstract

Young university students in the area of ​​health during their academic training are exposed to a series of academic factors, which in many cases become anxiety-generating factors. Therefore, the objective of this research is to determine the prevalence of anxiety and related academic factors in the university population. The analysis approach was quantitative, observational, descriptive, transversal and inferential. The sample of 250 people was probabilistic and stratified. The instruments used were: the Beck Anxiety Test, BAI, and the academic factors questionnaire; For the hypothesis test, the Spearman's Rho test was used, approved by the Ethics Committee on June 11, 2021. Results: the findings reveal a prevalence of anxiety of 24.72%; women have a higher prevalence of anxiety compared to men. No statistically significant relationship was found between the factors: academic load, methodology used by the teacher, teacher's personality and evaluation system, and the anxiety variable. Finally, there is a positive and weak relationship between the factors: weekly hours of study, partial exams and virtual modality of study and the
variable anxiety. A prevalence of anxiety of 24.72% was found, women presented a higher prevalence of anxiety; the factors: academic load, methodology used by the teacher, the teacher's personality and the evaluation system are not related to anxiety, while the factors: weekly hours of study, partial exams and virtual modality of study, have a weak positive relationship .
