Abstract

Research is one of the two most important activities of the scientist, the other being writing: "The goal of scientific research is publication. Men and women of science, when they begin as graduate students, are not judged primarily on their ability to in laboratory work, nor for their innate knowledge of broad or narrow scientific subjects, nor indeed, for their wit or personal charm: they are judged and known (or unknown) by their publications
