Abstract

The production of beta-lactamase-type inactivating enzymes is one of the most important mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance reported worldwide. Infections caused by extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing microorganisms are associated with higher mortality. Due to the ability to spread through transposable elements, bla genes are widely reported. However, there are countries without reports of their circulation, despite their clinical importance.
