Abstract

This bibliographic academic article deals in a diverse and synthetic way with the theme of plagues, pestilences and infectiouscontagious diseases in the Bible. The main findings of the exegetical and documentary research on the strategy and rhetorical function of the texts are presented, as well as the linguistic and semantic meaning of certain key elements through the instrumental use of Biblical Hebrew and Koine  Greek of the New Testament, developed in different contexts and books of the Bible. All  this, studied from the inductive method in its three key processes: observation, interpretation  and application of paradigmatic and exemplary biblical texts. In addition,  hermeneutical or contextual readings are presented, either from a pastoral and/or socio-political perspective applied to our Salvadoran society and reality in the context of  the current pandemic of COVID-19.
