Abstract

In this article a analysis of 1 Timothy 2:9-12 in order to know the meaning of this in a historical-situational context. This with the objective of understanding how to read it today in day, and avoid readings and applications of that reading, which starting from an interpretation literally generate exclusion towards the female gender. Because the traditional and androcentric readings that have been made of the The biblical text has generated a series of situations of exclusion and marginalization of the women in different fields: ecclesial, educational institutions, Christian NGOs, among others. From an exegetical approach to the text of 1 Timothy 2:9-12 that I take in tells the conjuncture behind the epistles Pastoral and the meaning of certain terms alluding to the silence of women, aims to propose that the instruction given responds to particular circumstances behind Timothy's 1st and 2nd. Therefore, no it must be taken in a universal sense, that is, as normative for women of all the epochs.
