Abstract

The article briefly presents the historical origin of fundamentalism, a movement that was born in the conservative heart of the
North American Protestantism; characterized, from its roots, by showing a total rejection of modern theology and liberal exegesis
of nineteenth-century European Protestantism. In the same way, it provides conceptual definitions of the main fundamentalisms
that currently exist; because the term, despite its religious genesis, has managed to emigrate to other fields in today's secularized societies
