Abstract

When we look back at history, we see that humanity has faced various types of crises. Among these are the major cataclysms that have affected and altered life on the planet, natural disasters such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and floods, wars and invasions, as well as health crises like pandemics, among others.

Faced with these different types of crises, humans have sometimes taken it upon themselves to reflect—whether through philosophy or theology—asking questions related to theodicy, such as: Why is this happening? Is it a punishment from God or the gods? Why does God allow this? In addition to questions of a theodicy nature, in times of crisis, humans have also produced a vast body of literature in which, through storytelling, they have sought to reflect on and explain what has happened, as well as to keep it alive in memory.
